Working together to help each other
N4W, or Networking for Well-being, is a social movement that fosters networking and collaboration for social good.
- N4W is a movement*, not an
organisation. It is evolving and growing alongside the networks* and
groups* that identify with it and support its development.
- The purpose* of N4W is to support activities and conversations that contribute to well-being in all its forms. It does this by supporting networks and groups that arise within the movement. Each network or group within N4W works in its own way to support its own Purposes, Activities and Values and to take part in the ongoing development of the movement.
- The Seven Plus Network - a network of people who came together originally to address questions related to moving out of paid work - it has evolved into a network that meets regularly on Wednesday mornings.
- The First Fridays Network - a network of people who meet on the First Friday of each month. It is gradually developing its patterns of working together.
- The First Impressions Network - a network of people who are mostly still tied up during the week because of work commitments.
- AoNZ - the Aotearoa New Zealand network - this is still evolving - but it involves various projects and initiatives which work toward AoNZ being a nation where our grandchildren/mokopuna can thrive. As such, it could span all the above networks around topics of specific interest to individuals from any network. It will include
- Te Reo Plus - networking to support competence and growth in using te reo Māori - and more -
* The word movement refers to "a body of persons with a common objective" - think for example, of the peace movement. N4W is a movement that explores ideas about working together to help each other address the issues that concern us. We care about well-being in all its forms.
* A network refers to people and groups of people who are "connected by the exchange of information etc. (professionally or socially). Within N4W it focuses on addressing the kinds of issues and questions that are identified by the particular network. A network does not have clear boundaries - it welcomes people who are addressing similar questions and issues.
* A group is a number of people working together on a particular activity. Within N4W groups are commonly bunches of people who are working on a specific issue within a network - eg "Flourishing 2024" is a closed group within the First Fridays network. An open group can increase its numbers if it wishes.
